Have you heard about homeopathy, but you aren’t sure what it is?
You’re not alone!
Homeopathy is one of the most mis-understood systems of medicine out there. And, even though it is the second largest system of medicine in the world, most people in the United States and many other western, developed countries, still have no clue what it is.
So, what exactly is homeopathy?
Homeopathy is a distinct, comprehensive, and deep system of medicine originally developed by Samuel Hahnemann over 200 years ago. It uses minute doses of specially prepared medicines, colloquially called remedies, to stimulate a person’s own vital force to heal itself.
Homeopathy is distinct in that it is its own system of medicine. Is it distinct in both theory and practice from all other systems of medicine - most notably allopathic, mainstream medicine, but also from naturopathic medicine, chiropractic, acupuncture, herbal medicine, bodywork, osteopathy, essential oils, and home remedies.
Some homeopathically prepared medicines often DO find their way into some of these other systems of medicine, particularly naturopathic medicine and acupuncture, but this is not the same thing as seeing a Professional Certified Homeopath.
It’s important to note that Homeopathy is not a licensed profession in the United States, but it is governed by two certifying bodies. Certified homeopaths go through rigorous 4-5 year training programs, including adequate training on Anatomy and Physiology and Pathology, as well as demonstrating clinical competence.
Homeopathy is comprehensive in that it can work with potentially ALL of human ills. Homeopathy also works on plants, animals, and insects.
It can be used curatively whenever a person’s vital force is strong enough to overcome the illness. It can be used palliatively, too, to enhance one’s well being even at the end of life.
Homeopathy is deep in that it touches every aspect of a person’s being. Homeopathy helps the patient’s emotional plane, physical plane, and spiritual plane. In fact, the root of dis-ease is often if not always on the level of the person’s spirit - meaning the intangible part of the person that is even deeper than the emotions.
The dis-ease manifests itself in the patient as an emotional symptom or disturbance as well as a physical symptom or pathology.
The correct homeopathic medicine will stimulate the body to heal physically, emotionally, as well as spiritually.
At its core, homeopathy is an energy medicine. The remedies are often used in a non-material dose, yet they work, even though we can’t explain their mechanism of action. Hundreds of studies have shown the effectiveness of homeopathy for all sorts of chronic and acute dis-eases. What’s more, homeopathy was founded on empirical data and clinicians continue to collect clinical data to add to our body of understanding of homeopathy today.
