Homeopathy for Pregnancy and Childbirth

Mar 19, 2021

During pregnancy and childbirth, many women are looking for safer ways to treat common ailments and to support the birth process. Homeopathy is perfect for pregnant women and newborns because it is a safe, non-toxic, gentle healing method that uses energy to stimulate the body’s innate healing powers.

Homeopathy works on the mind, body, and spirit, encouraging a whole-body healing experience that is unlike any other form of medicine or supplementation.

Any woman who has used homeopathy during labor and delivery will sing its praises far and wide. It can help speed up the birth process where desired, reduce pain, and promote healing.

Here are the top 5 remedies that every pregnant mother should know about to help ensure an easy pregnancy and delivery.

Arnica 200C is a must-have remedy for childbirth. Taken during labor, it speeds dilation of the cervix and helps the sore, bruised sensation of the uterus. It also helps to reduce afterpains.  After a Cesarean, Arnica will help with healing, pain, and bleeding as you recover. Arnica is also helpful during pregnancy when the uterus feels sore and bruised from the baby’s kicks and is a must-have remedy after any trauma or falls, especially while pregnant. You can read more about Arnica and its general uses in this article.

Aconite 200C is especially useful for women in labor if they feel frightened or panicky, or if the mother or baby has urine retention after delivery, especially if the birth was fast. It’s also a wonderful remedy, again, particularly after a fast or difficult birth, where mother or baby appears to be in shock with a wide-eyed, frightful look.

Kali Carb 200C is an excellent remedy for back labor especially with a posterior presentation of the baby. You’ll know mom needs this remedy when she needs constant, firm pressure on her back, and often has chills after a contraction. Labor pains may shoot down her legs.

Pulsatilla 200C is one of the top morning-sickness remedies as well as a remedy for urine incontinence, especially if aggravated by coughing. A woman who needs Pulsatilla is usually easily identified by her weepy, tearful mood, and it is extremely useful in labor and delivery when the mother gets into such a state and labor has stalled. Pulsatilla has even been known to turn a baby in the last few weeks of gestation when the baby is not in the right position for delivery.

Sepia 200C is the number one remedy for pregnancy-related headaches, nausea or vomiting with an aversion to food or odors, and vaginal itch. It is helpful to ward off postpartum depression or the irritability that comes with feeling overwhelmed with children, particularly when mom begins to lose her patience. It’s also a great PMS remedy to have on hand for when your cycle returns.

To dose homeopathic remedies, give one dose (1-2 pellets, typically) and observe for improvement. Only re-dose as needed, when symptoms return. You can give pellets sublingually or put them in a few ounces of water and dose that way (1 tsp = 1 dose).
